What do I do if I knock out my tooth?
If a permanent (or adult) tooth is knocked out, make sure to keep it moist by either placing it back in the socket, between your cheek and gums, or into a glass of milk. Call us immediately for an appointment.
What do I do if I crack a tooth?
Rinse your mouth with warm water immediately to clean the area. If you experience any swelling, place a cold compress on your face to keep the swelling down. Call our office to schedule an emergency appointment.
What’s the best way to treat a toothache?
Start by rinsing your mouth with warm water to clean the area. Floss gently to remove any food particles that might be caught between teeth. Never put aspirin directly on gums or a tooth as it may cause a burn. Call us to schedule an appointment.
Are there ways to prevent a dental emergency?
Keeping your teeth clean and healthy is the best first line of defense against tooth pain emergencies. But dental injuries do happen, no matter how faithful you are with your dentist appointments. To help avoid injuries, wear a mouthguard when playing contact sports; avoid chewing ice or popcorn kernels as they can crack teeth; and use scissors, NOT your teeth, to cut things.
